Re: [Amoia Cody Studio - NYIT Thesis - 2009-10] Nik - Scheme Development

Nik - These look good. Much better than the wood sticks. I like the shaping of the circulation to make the "resting" places. Could you try a drawing that shows the solid and void relationship around these spaces (circulation) and places. Have you found an idea about how the circulation can be both literal and conceptual structure? This would make the idea much different from the Koolhaas circulation. Don't focus too much on it, but do give it some thought. Also, how does the model work with shadow? Take it outside and photograph it (or use a lamp if it remains overcast). Perhaps use the shadows as the next edit.

  1. Could that drawing be the unfolded plan or should it be a more typical drawing like plan/section? As for the circulation piece being structural as well, I figure that where it touches the ground it can support the program it shapes and when it turns a corner it would imply that it is carrying the program within it but in actuality the program supports the circulation.

  2. I guess what I’m asking is for is a description of the void (public) space. How is it defined? This could start as a plan / section, but should end in perhaps a solid /void diagram of the program / non-program (public) space. This might suggest how the entry spaces touch down at the ground and how they relate to the context.
