I had a classmate in my design class next semester who studied Toyo Ito's Library. Something that confuses me a little about that project is the arc shaped structure that it has....What I am confused is, is it really a pendentive? I'm not 100% sure, but isn't it just decorative..I thought that the actual structure was simple columns that had a very careful and specific concrete layer that was formed as an arc....I'm not really sure...you probably know for sure..
The Ito project where I said 'pendentives' was not the library, but the Berkeley Art Museum. I saw the push and pull of the planes somehow like the bending of the pendentive arch.
Pendentives!
ReplyDeleteThe mention of pendentive reminded me of a lecture last yeat by Toyo Ito. I'll share my notes in my next post.
